The restoration of the tabernacle,  came from the need to perform a careful conservation of the surfaces and static structure, This work represented a ‘unique opportunity to learn and develop the study of art history, techniques of performance and the preservation history of this work by Arnolfo di Cambio,  comparing them to those of many other works restored in recent years as part of events organized to mark the centenary of his death. The investigations of restoration have provided interesting information on the characteristics of materials used both on enforcement techniques.
